The Ohio legislature’s recently approved biennium budget for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 introduces significant changes affecting public libraries across the state, including Pataskala Public Library. The Public Library Fund (PLF), previously allocated as a fixed percentage of the state’s General Revenue Fund, has been restructured into a line-item appropriation. This adjustment results in a reduction of nearly $100 million in funding for Ohio’s public libraries over the next two fiscal years compared to the governor’s proposed budget. Additionally, the shift to a line-item appropriation creates uncertainty, leaving future library funding susceptible to potential cuts. Despite these challenges, Pataskala Public Library remains steadfast in its mission to serve our vibrant community. Thanks to the unwavering support of our local property tax levy, we are better equipped to mitigate the impact of these reductions. We are deeply grateful to everyone who advocated for public libraries by contacting Ohio legislators during the budget process. Looking ahead, Pataskala Public Library is committed to continuing to provide exceptional programs, resources, and spaces where our community can learn, connect, and thrive. We value your ongoing support and look forward to serving you as a cornerstone of education, engagement, and enrichment in Pataskala.
