PATPL Quarterly Fall25 FINAL

“Color Our World” was a successful reading program for our library this summer. When I think of this theme, I think of the things I did to fill my time when I retired from a career in education. Once you retire, you look for things to fill your time each day. Now I realize that I was looking for things to color MY world. I continued to golf in my summer golf league. I spent more time with my three standard poodles. Some have passed on and now I have Lola, Phoebe, and Marvin Gray. I took up quilting and became a co-vice president and then a co-president of a quilt guild. I was glad to have more time to spend with my grandchildren and helped them through the educational changes they dealt with during COVID. I even held a very part-time job in education. After COVID, it was time to do something else. I had always loved to read and took it up again after retirement when I had time to read for pleasure. I saw an opening at the Pataskala Library and decided to apply so I could spend even more time with the books I wanted to read. It was something I felt I wanted to do and was glad to be offered the position. I was so excited to accept and begin my new adventure in a library almost four years ago. In fact, I was told that I could come to work in a Halloween costume on my first day on the job if I chose to. I wasn’t sure if it was a challenge or an initiation, but I did and luckily the rest of the staff was dressed accordingly. These days I still color my world in the same ways but have added my work in the library as well. I enjoy helping people find what colors THEIR world. You can add a brilliance to your activities by borrowing items from the library. Use our catalogs on the end-caps on the children or adult sides or even our internet computers to search for topics that interest you. In my case, I searched “poodles” (636.72), “golfing” (796.352), and “quilting” (646.25). Some people ask if I sew, but I actually quilt. Quilting is a whole different “thread” as evidenced by the numbers used to search it on the shelves, (sewing is 646.2). By using the resources in the library, I have broadened my knowledge, skill, or technique by learning more about what I already enjoyed doing, and you can, too. Come to the library to color YOUR world. Use the catalog to search for your favorite topics or authors. We can look these items up for you but there is a great joy in personally searching through what is available. Only you know what truly interests you. If you would like to begin your own search, just ask. We would be glad to help you color YOUR world. Tina Library Clerk Years At The Library: 4 Meet The Staff
